University

With my graduation day being less than three days away, I figured why not do a post on all the things I learned at university. Life experiences and all. You know? The deep and dark stuff. I am going to try and make this sufficiently interesting…doesn’t help that I am suffering from a major MAJOR writer’s block, but hey, here goes.

1) THING ARE GOING TO KEEP CHANGING
And you have to be okay with that. Understand that life at uni has not come with a contract stating that things are forever going to be the same. Be it the generic uni lifestyle which includes taking full responsibility of your decisions, or the new found independence, or be it a sudden tremor in your personal life because of a falling out with a friend or whatever. You are going to have to learn how to deal with it, make your peace with it, and move forward. Do not spend hours and hours on end lamenting over why certain things didn’t work out. Take it from me: it is not worth it. Just keep in mind that change is inevitable, and mostly change happens for the best reasons.

2. BE STRONG
Uni will present you with a whole load of different characters to deal with. From fellow students to lectures to whatever it is that comes in between. And not everyone is going to be nice to you, and so, my dear, you will HAVE to be strong. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you, don’t let anyone treat you like shit, and don’t let anyone make you feel any less than you are. And reciprocate by not being that person. And, when you do come across someone that treats you god-awful…speak up. Don’t be afraid of them. Okay? Be strong. Think of it like being in prison…okay maybe not prison…but just don’t be afraid of anyone. In simpler words, don’t let anyone intimidate you!

3. TRY AND BE YOUR OWN SAFETY BLANKET BUT ALSO REMEMBER…YOU WILL NEED OTHER PEOPLE
Uni life isn’t easy, you will face unhappy days…and maybe even days that will put forth before you the question of ‘is this shit even worth it?’. To answer that question…yes yes it is. I mean it. But also, try and take care of yourself when and where you can, and when your sadness gets out of hand, talk to a friend. Or seek professional help. There isn’t anything wrong with that. What’s important is your mental health and safety.

4. THERE’S A REASON
With everything that happens, everything you go through, there is a reason. Remember that. It may seem shitty, it may seem odd, it may seem extremely fucked up at the time…but there is a reason. So don’t give up, and go through with things.

5. BE DILIGENT
Pretty self-explanatory. Diligence is key. It will get you good grades, a good life and a good self-esteem. Try it. And try keep yourself motivated through quotes or whatever. Do it.

6.ENJOY THE RIDE
You are going to end up with great friends and a marvellous set of memories to take forward with you, so don’t dwell too much on why certain things didn’t work out, focus on all the things that did. Participate, have fun, and make memories.

And lastly,

7DON’T BE AFRAID
Of being who you truly are. Of saying no. Just be yourself and I promise you, it will be great.

I tried and I hope it is not in vain.

Love and positivity,

Meera

  1. Hey. I’m in uni outside of my home country, and reading this(especially number 7) helped me feel more…or rather less.. anxious about things. So thanks.
